Counseling is a place where you can be seen and heard in your experience, whatever that is, by an empathetic witness. Based on your individual goals you and your counselor will co-collaborate on an approach that supports your individual needs. That might look like learning how to communicate from an authentic place, developing a deeper connection with yourself, or understanding why problems are showing up for you and how to navigate those in a way that supports your emotional, physical, spiritual or mental wellness. Counseling is a place where you can show up as you are, without feeling the need to meet expectations.

It is important to understand that there are both benefits and risks associated with participation in therapy. Therapy may improve the ability to relate to others, provide a clearer understanding of self, values, and goals, and an ability to deal with everyday stress. However, clients may learn things about themselves that create conflict with preexisting circumstances. Often growth cannot occur until past issues are experienced and confronted, often causing distressing feelings such as sadness and anxiety. Therapy can lead to unanticipated feelings and change, which might have an unexpected impact on you, and your relationships. For example, marital therapy may lead to the possibility of exercising the divorce option.

The duration of therapy varies greatly depending on individual needs and goals. Some clients may find support in a few sessions, while others may benefit from longer-term therapy over several months or even years. Your counselor will work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan and regularly review progress to determine the best course of action for your specific situation.
